TRG-S6E2d3: Teach Each Other

Standard

Join us on The Great Reset (via Zoom or YouTube Live at Tue Dec 8 1PM PST) as we strive to discover how imperfect people can help each other Love More Like Jesus.

Question: How can the Body of Christ come together to heal relationships, when the authority structures we rely on to resolve conflict are themselves part of the brokenness?

Perspective: By mutually submitting ourselves to the Word, the Spirt, the Body, and Christ’s Blood.

Specifically, this week we plan to practice being Discipled by Scripture using Romans 15:14-19:

14 My brothers and sisters, I am sure that you are full of goodness. I know that you have all the knowledge you need and that you are able to teach each other. 15 But I have written to you very openly about some things I wanted you to remember. I did this because God gave me this special gift: 16 to be a minister of Christ Jesus to those who are not Jews. I served God by teaching his Good News, so that the non-Jewish people could be an offering that God would accept—an offering made holy by the Holy Spirit.

17 So I am proud of what I have done for God in Christ Jesus. 18 I will not talk about anything except what Christ has done through me in leading those who are not Jews to obey God. They have obeyed God because of what I have said and done, 19 because of the power of miracles and the great things they saw, and because of the power of the Holy Spirit. I preached the Good News from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum, and so I have finished that part of my work.

  1. 2 Corinthians 12:9 says His grace is sufficient for me, for His power is made perfect in weakness.
It is in my brokenness I am strong. Those areas where I have experienced pain and suffering, are now areas of authority. It’s like the story of a man stuck down inside a hole. People come and go not offering help then someone climbs into the hole with this man. The man says, “I’m trying to get out of here yet you jump in with me. What are you doing?” The one who jumps in replies, “I’m here because I know the way out.” This is the best example of how we submit our whole selves to each other for our benefit: by reaching out and being an instrument of compassion. When someone I know and trust listens empathetically then turns on the Light and gently leads me out of my pit, I am being healed.

Quite frankly, this is a question for the American Church today that seems to refuse Godly revelation for secular aims. Our brokenness, and subsequent strength and authority will be needed to reconcile the church and redirect its focus on for its primary mission: The ministry of reconciliation.
