I am on a people-mover
Like a train of roller-coaster cars
But we are stopped on level ground
At least for a moment
Each car represents a different level of leadership
I am in the third or fourth
Perhaps moving from third to fourth
There is a man in the car before me
He may have been a mentor
He is trying to put his watch back on
But can’t remember
If it should go
On the left or right
I wanted to be
At the very front
But now I realize
That the greatest leadership
Is being the first one
To get into the last car
“He sat down, called the twelve disciples over to him, and said, “Whoever wants to be first must take last place and be the servant of everyone else.”
