10/28 Poem: Ill-Legalist

The legalist earns our respect
For reasons we ought to inspect
He’s willing to hold up the wall
Without which our culture will fall

Mercy works fine at the fringe
To forgive the occasional binge
But keeping “us” safe, at the core
Means someone must take on the chore

Of splitting their head from their heart
And keeping their eyes on the chart
For if we’re not guided by law
We’ll soon be destroyed by each flaw

Their sacrifice has a steep price:
They soon end up murdering Christ
Yet maybe that isn’t the worst
For they had to kill themselves first
