Poem: The God Who Is (and We Are Not)

Standard

We Christians and Jews
Do not get to choose
Our reality
Is defined by Thee

The One that You are
Must be our North Star
Your plan from above
Must be how we love

Yet it is not clear
When danger is near
Why You stay away
And not save the day

Unless, just perhaps
It is my own lapse
That I fail to see
Who You truly be

Your purpose is not
That evil be caught
But rather we grew
Your character too

For our sad refrain
Is that we fear pain
And never dare ask
The worth of the task

If Your Word is real
You feel what we feel
And share in our story
To bring us to glory

So whenYou forbear
We grow into heirs
For You pay this price
To make us like Christ
