The reason Christ told us to
Pick up our daily cross
Is we must stay in training
Or else suffer great loss

For as our influence
And kingdom impact grows
So also does our burden
And the need to blame our foes

For if we shirk the pain of
The cross which we must bear
We place it upon others
And our relations tear

The privilege of being
Friends of the Son of God
Means we must walk where He did
And suffer as His Bod

And though it feels unfair
‘Tis just a cosmic joke
To lose our life turns that ol’ cross
Into an easy yoke
