Self-Pitiless

Standard

We need to learn
Compassion for our Self
Yet show it no
Pity

Self. Ego. Pride.
They have served us well
Defended our fragile spirit
Secured our place in the world

They deserve our thanks
Even honor
As the mother and father
Who brought us here

But
They still have to die

For they were never meant
To rule
Only serve
The One

The wars they fought
Carried a terrible price
The survival instinct
Carried us through
But now it betrays
Our Savior
With a kiss

Really
The kindest thing we can do
For our Self
Our Ego
Our Pride
Is put it to death

Though it screams and begs
Threatens and demands
Deep down it knows
That only in death
Can it find
Peace
Freedom
Release
Wholeness

Life
Abundant
Joy
Unending
Truth
Untainted

Only by letting go
All we thought ourselves to be
Can we truly become
Finally remember
Gratefully receive
Our identity
As beloved children
Fruitful heirs
Redeemed spirits

Only then
Can we know
Our Beloved
And be known
As our
True
Self
