Day 31: Understanding Your Shape – 40 Days of Purpose-Driven Life

Purpose #4: You Were Shaped for Serving God

Point to Ponder: Nobody else can be me.

Verse to Remember: “God has given each of you some special abilities; be sure to use them to help each other, passing on to others God’s many kinds of blessings.” — I Peter 4:10 (LB)

Question to Consider: What God-given ability or personal experience can I offer to my church?

After Spiritual Gifts and Heart’s Desire, Rick rounds out his SHAPE acronym with:

* Applying Your Abilities
* Using Your Personality
* Employing Your Experiences (family, educational, vocational, spiritual, ministry, painful)

It occurs to me that there’s several equal and opposite errors we can make regarding our SHAPE:

* denigrating our SHAPE because it is not as good as others
* idolizing our SHAPE because we think it intrinsically good
* resenting the price we had to pay for our SHAPE

From where I sit, the solution to all of these comes in knowing that our ultimate purpose is to glorify a loving God. It is still a hard truth to swallow — part of me would rather focus on glorifying my personality and attributes — but I’ve got plenty of evidence where that path leads. 😦

The good news, though, is that if we submit all these things to Him, God will simultaneously make us more like Him — and more ourselves!

Prayer: Father, So be it! Amen and Amen. Come, Lord Jesus, Come.
