Radically Happy

I lie on my back / 
Helpless / 
Waiting / 
For what feels like forever…

I know I will need her help / But I cannot see her // And even if I did / There are no words I can speak / That she can hear…

Me / 
The purebred / 
The mongrels / 
Who once fought us / 
And themselves…

Wagging my tail / 
As the Rottweiler / 
Enters the alley / 
Respectfully sniffs the purebred / 
And looks at the mongrels / 
Who used to threaten me…

They continue forward / Snarling // Angry at me / For defiling their space / With holiness…

Because all the other dogs / 
Are standing before me / 
Angry / 
Snarling / 
Threatening…

She thinks / 
It is frustrating her / 
Rather than guiding her / 
To what she truly wants…

She refuses / 
Any food I bring / 
She despises / 
Any submission I show…

Forming packs / 
To steal from the weak / 
Then turning on each other…

I chase / 
The Rottweiler who saved me / 
Across fields of gold / 
In a land of abundance…

He fights for me / 
Clearing a path through my enemies / 
Who scatter before His bark…

I bare my teeth / 
Against the other stray dogs / 
Defending the rotting food / 
I had found in the alley…

I take a stand / 
So / 
The darkness threatens / 
To overcome me…

The road to the blight / On My Father’s garden forest / Has become swampy // The more I fight it / The more I get stuck…

Or my enforced fast / 
Emptied me of smallness / 
Until I enlarged…

I wait / 
Without food and water / 
For three days / 
And three nights…
