I am… falling facedown.

The earth beneath my feet
That I thought solid bedrock
Collapses
Beneath the weight
Of pursuing holiness
At the cost of relationship

Underneath
We find an ocean of grace

I look for Jesus.

He is walking on the water

He reaches down
To pull up
My teenage grandfather
And me

We cling to him.

And each other

Not our judgement
Not our righteousness
Not our roles

Our only identity
The sheer desperate gratitude
Of those who have been saved
From a fate worse than death

Jesus looks to us.

He says:

“In the kingdom of God
There are no fathers and mothers
No clean and unclean
There are only those…”

“Who know they need Me!”
