I am… serving.

The young men have cooked
The Beast they killed

I am distributing it
As part of the young woman’s feast
Even to those
Who did not come with us

The food is wonderful.

I feel ashamed
I could not receive it earlier

Because I had not killed the Beast
Because I was not hungry enough
Because I had not surrendered myself

I look to My Father.

He says:

“Your penance
Is that you must speak the truth
Of what you’ve seen
And what you believe
Even if it turns out to be wrong”

I obey.

To my surprise
The young woman admits
She has been to the fertile valley
Beyond the narrow gorge

But did not think
I was brave enough
To voluntarily go there
Or strong enough
To defeat the Beast

She was both right
And wrong

But it does not matter
Because now she agrees…

To show me the way!
