Identity Exchange Memo

Continued from On The Run

I am… striving to enter.

The door My Father opened
Is guarded
By a gorilla in a monkey suit

When I see him
I immediately become defensive
And start arguing with him
About why I deserve to enter

Then a miracle occurs.

My Father
Taps both of us
On the shoulder

We quiet

He tells me:

“The gorilla
Was not put there
To stop you
But protect you”

He tells the gorilla:

“This one must enter
Not because he deserves to
But because…”

“He is mine!”

To be continued

Reflection

I feel…

  • Capricious
  • Argumentative
  • Exposed
  • Called
  • Defended
  • Rebuked
  • Belonging

Scripture

The one who has committed manslaughter shall escape for protection to one of these cities and stand at the entrance to the city gates and explain his case to the leaders of the city. The leaders must then receive him into their city and grant him asylum.
