I am… collapsing.

Both from my long walk uphill
And not wanting the cheering crowd
To look at me
Instead of (the ice sculpture of) Jesus
Which I accidentally mimicked

And my weakness saves me

A hot wind blows.

The standing crowd staggers
The statue topples over
And starts quickly melting

Someone sees me
Lying prostrate
And follows suit

Others
Buffeted by the wind
Follow his example

The wind stops
I raise my head

I look for Jesus.

The melting sculpture
Washed away the dirt
Above a wooden trapdoor

I am the first to stand up

The crowd looks to me.

I say:

“He is not here
He has descended
Come and see!”

Without waiting
For their response
I open the trap door

And disappear!

“Are you afraid of these idols? Do they terrify you? Is that why you have lied to me and forgotten me and my words? Is it because of my long silence that you no longer fear me?
Now I will expose your so-called good deeds. None of them will help you. Let’s see if your idols can save you when you cry to them for help. Why, a puff of wind can knock them down! If you just breathe on them, they fall over!
