Immanuel Approach Memo

Continued from 7/6 IAM: Re-Creating

I am… moving.

Even though we stopped
All of us
Me, children, enemies, Jesus
Seem to be on an enormous moving sidewalk
Heading towards the Red Sea

I look for Jesus.

He is not afraid
Or even surprised

But the rest of us are
People start to shuffle nervously

But nobody moves
Yet

The children
Are afraid of the soldiers
The soldiers
Are afraid of their officers
The officers
Are afraid of Pharaoh

Pharaoh is not here
The officers are in back
They are willing to wait
To see what happens to everyone else

Jesus looks to me.

With a sinking feeling
(Literally)
I realize He wants me to go first
To show the children
There is nothing to fear
From the deep, deep waters

I don’t want to go
I could pretend I didn’t see Him
Or understand Him

But that would mean
Forcing someone else
To take the plunge
To bear the risk
To share the glory

Do I love Him
More than I fear
The waters?

I sigh.

I walk forward
Right to the end
Where the moving walkway
Disappears beneath the waves

I raise my hands
And cry out to God

And then…

A miracle occurs!

To be continued

Reflection

I feel…

  • Exposed
  • Singled out
  • Terrified
  • Obedient
  • Hopeful

Scripture

I have put roads in deserts, streams in thirsty lands.‬‬

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭43‬:‭19b‬ ‭CEV
