  • For Jesus

Immanuel Approach Memo

Continued from 6/6 IAM: Outfitted

I am…. sneaking.

Jesus is carrying my shoes
And His
As we cautiously head towards
What I assume is the Enemy Camp

I feel ridiculous
Trying to escape notice
Wearing a brightly colored jersey
Designed for a grueling public marathon
Instead of a delicate private insertion

I thought the goal
Was to go fast and far
Not slow and soft

I look to Jesus.

He winks
And grins

He wants
To surprise Them

That is why we must be quiet
That is why I am so highly visible
To increase the impact when seen

I fervently hope
Jesus will give me back my shoes
If They turn out to not like surprises
So I can run away
Though I doubt I am faster than Him

Finally
We reach a building
With a double door
Unlocked

Thankfully
He lets us put on our shoes
Unfortunately
He insists on bursting in
On the count of three

I roll my eyes.

Why
Did I agree
To follow Him anywhere?

Why
Won’t He tell me
What happens next?

Why
Does He have
Such a silly grin
On His face?

I sigh
And begin to count:

“1…2…3!”

To be continued

Reflection

I feel…

  • Ridiculous
  • Exposed
  • Petulant
  • Reluctant
  • Committed
  • Curious
  • Stuck

Scripture

He will not cry out or raise His voice, nor make His voice heard in the streets.

Isaiah 42:2
