Concluding 3/15 IAM: Linking Hearts/UltraSong

I am… Un-Singing

I am trapped in the bowels of the city
With all the underground workers
Whose Song is supposed to make the city harmonize

But the city is ruined
Because our Song is broken

In fact
I now realize
It always was

We were always only singing
A Song we had memorized

Not hearing
And repeating
The Song Jesus now sings

It only became obvious
When people started hearing
And repeating
Different parts of the Song

It only caused problems
When we clung to our Song
Rather than the Singer

So when I now try to echo
The ultrasonic UltraSong of Jesus
(That my ears cannot hear)

I sing
A Song without words
A Song
Against words
An UnSong

I un-sing
All the Song fragments
That sustain
And ruin
Our city

And in the silence
The dancing, clashing crowds
Stop
And listen
Though they don’t know for what

The marchers
Of the Army of the Redeeemed
The vanguard
On the borders
Know Who they are listening for
But not why

I am not listening

I only see Jesus.

Singing the UltraSong
I cannot hear
But tangibly feel

I see Him
Singing out His heart
Into me
Into us

Starting with the black gang
Then the vanguard
Then the Army

I see Him
Feel Him
Know Him

Filling me
Filling us
Until we are full

Then I stop un-singing

There is a moment of pure silence
Such has never been known
Since the day the first singer
Sung the city into existence
With blood and blessing

Then our ears are opened

Expanded
Enlarged
Enhanced

Glorified
So we can hear
The UltraSong

So we begin
To sing
To shout
To fly

And the people of the city
Begin to dance
In perfect harmony
A Penrose dance
Never repeating
Yet always in perfect synchrony

Each of them hearing different tunes
But the same Song

For ever and ever
Til the end of the Age

Amen.

Reflection

I feel…

  • Complete
  • Glorious
  • Empty
  • Full
  • Tired
  • Rest
  • Done

Scripture

“Lord, you will grant us peace; all we have accomplished is really from you. O Lord our God, others have ruled us, but you alone are the one we worship.
Those we served before are dead and gone. Their departed spirits will never return! You attacked them and destroyed them, and they are long forgotten.
O Lord, you have made our nation great; yes, you have made us great. You have extended our borders, and we give you the glory!”
