  • Anticipating other people’s our triggers
  • So I we God can start to heal them us

Immanuel Approach Memo

I am… sitting at a table
A small wooden table
Designed to fit two, maybe four

Maybe a card table
I am shuffling cards
Possibly just to pass the time
Not because I intend to play
Or have anyone to play with

I look for Jesus.

He’s standing behind me
I feel His hand on my shoulder
I hear His voice

Actually, His whistle

Far away, a door opens
One or two people enter
Slowly
Shyly
Hesitantly

As if they didn’t expect to be here
And are unsure of their welcome

I can barely see them
But I can hear their footsteps
Coming towards me

Towards the light
The light of Jesus

Though they can’t yet see Him
Only me

Others follow
I can hear them at the door
Before the first ones reach me

Two of them arrive at roughly the same time
They glance at each other
Not at me
Then shrug and sit down
I shrug and start dealing them cards

I’m not paying attention
But it looks like the table grew!
More seats appear
Just as people arrive

The deck also grows

More precisely
The more cards I give away
The more I find I am holding

The more cards I give away
The more I find I am holding

I split the deck
One half I divide among the two closest to me
The other half I take with me
As I head towards the opposite end

Jesus takes my vacant seat

Reflection

I feel…

  • Awed
  • Humbled
  • Hopeful
  • Excited
  • Intimidated

Scripture

“Bind up this testimony of warning and seal up God’s instruction among my disciples.
I will wait for the Lord, who is hiding his face from the descendants of Jacob.
I will put my trust in him.
Here am I, and the children the Lord has given me.
We are signs and symbols in Israel from the Lord Almighty, who dwells on Mount Zion.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭8‬:‭16‬-‭18‬ ‭NIV‬‬
