Masquerading as Christ

Our Religion

  1. Implicitly trust my self-assessment of how confident I should be versus consensus reality
  2. Greatly under-weight other’s emotional investment in the status quo
  3. Arguments should be won by those who think most clearly and logically, with the best facts
  4. Words are tools to use as we see fit
  5. God prefers abstract truths to concrete falsehoods
  6. I should always do what I think is right

Our Folly

  • Easy to see when this is better than the alternatives.
  • Much harder to see where it could be far worse.

Our Mascot

The animal featured on the cover of sed & awk, Second Edition is a slender loris. Lorises are nocturnal, tree-dwelling, tailless primates with thick, soft fur and large, round eyes. They are found in Southern India and Ceylon, where they live in trees, rarely descending to the ground.
Lorises have been observed urinating on their hands and feet-it is thought that they do this to improve their grip while climbing and to leave a scent trail.

PostScript: Missional Narcissism

  • It’s not about me
    • It’s about accomplishing the mission
  • The best way
    • Which happens to be my way
  • Let me prove it to you
    • On my terms
