11/9 Epic Poem: Self-Pitiless

The war I must fight
To see the world free
Is leaving the path
Of pitying me

Tis easy to conquer
If ruthless enough
Not pitying those
Who aren’t up to snuff

But The Way of Christ
Does not trust in force
Instead it invites
A far different course

To see all the broken
From their point of view
And walk in their shoes
To show them what’s true

And my flesh rebels
To take on that pain
Unwinding the triggers
Hid deep in my brain

For my sense of Self
That helps me be me
Is what I must lose
To show Christ to thee

This act is not easy
And deadly when wrong
Yet it is essential
To live Spirit song

So die on Christ’s altar
Self-pity farewell
For when I lose my soul
I save yours from hell
