10/22 Poem: Amidst Evil

Q. What have you been working on?

A. How to find joy amidst evil

Psalm 23:5: You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

We’d rather lie safe in our beds
With nobody seeking our heads
Dreaming of heavenly bliss
While trapped in a world we won’t miss

But that’s not the feast Christ prepared
Or the cup drunk when He’s scared
Or the joy that’s set before
Those whom He loves so much more

The greatest joy is not to be
Stuck alone in eternity
But broken hearts that invite
All to share His holy light

And this is the marvelous fate
Waiting for those who dare date
A savior who hung on a tree
To pour love on our enemy

I am not asking that You take them out of the world, but that You keep them from the evil one.
John 17:15
