As we come to this New Year’s Eve
I’m wondering what I should leave
What pain have I still failed to grieve
Forgiveness I’ve yet to receive
What goals must I finally believe
I’m no longer going to achieve
The heart that I wore on my sleeve
May finally earn a reprieve
Yet even though it sounds naive
I’m still hoping to undeceive
May God help me learn to perceive
The kindness that comes from His sieve
