Ruth had many days
That she might rue

Marrying an Israelite
His death and her widowhood
Choosing to follow Naomi
Exile in Israel
Living in poverty

She could look backward
At everything that had gone wrong
That made her life so difficult
And uncertain

Or…
She could accept
The present
As a gift

What are
The unexpected opportunities
In these unchosen circumstances?

Where has God
Long ago made provision
For my immediate need?

What constructive action can I take
Right now
Right here
So God can give me
My daily bread

Never knowing
That it might be the doorway
To my salvation
And everyone else’s!
