Radically Happy

Then a miracle occurs. // I see God cry. // Holding me close / With great wracking sobs…

So earnest / 
That if I give you a task / 
Or even a gift / 
You will turn it / 
Into an obligation”

I am / 
At last / 
In the right place / 
At the right time / 
As the right *me* // Which is rather remarkable / 
If still disorienting…

What went wrong? / 
What did *I* do wrong? / 
How will we know / 
Where to worship / 
And seek Your face?

I leave two elders / 
At each city / 
For forty days / 
To negotiate a peace treaty // They all fail!

Instead of a conquering king / 
A small lamb / 
Jumps down from the throne / 
As it lands / 
In the center of the city…

I turn to my elders / Who had waged war on other cities / And killed me / Before surrendering // Wondering / What in God’s name / Would I do with them?

The lords of the city / 
Are terrified / 
When they realize / 
Their greatest weapon / 
— Death — / 
Is useless against us…

As our enemies / Liberate our spirits / From our earthly identity / The people of the city… // See.

The lords of this city / 
Sit on judgement / 
On me and the other high priests / 
In the place of slaughter…

Dressed in my high-priestly robes / 
At first / 
Everyone thinks / 
I am a celebrity…

But if I / 
Had no place in the city / 
Am I not / 
Even more insignificant / 
Outside of it?

The significant others / 
Who determine how I see myself / 
By how they see me…
