Ecosystem Introduction

Biblical Foundation

John 15:1–17

Ecosystem

An ecosystem is a body built together with friendship and values prior to understanding their identity and assignment (John 15:9).

Circles

  • The circle provides a platform within the ecosystem to abide in Jesus.
  • Being fruitful is a byproduct of abiding with Him (John 15:4).

Stewards

  • Stewards facilitate circles internally and network externally.
  • Jesus is the leader of the circle (John 15:5).
  • Ideally, each circle has three stewards.

Friends

  • Jesus chooses and appoints friends inside the circle (John 15:16, Luke 10:1, John 15:14).
  • Each friend contributes a specific role to the circle’s assignment.
  • Stewards pray and seek God’s confirmation (Luke 6:12–13).
  • Friends are invited to “come and see” (John 1:39).

Operations

  • Relationships are the primary operational mode.
  • The maturity of the circle increases as friends grow in love with Jesus and one another (John 15:12).

Outcomes

  • Abiding in Jesus leads to outcomes with lasting fruit (John 15:16).
  • One such outcome is joy (John 15:11).

Unseen and Seen

  • With the unseen foundation of abiding in place, visible transformation will be sustainable and efficient.
  • God uses the unseen to establish the seen (Hebrews 11:3).

Cultivation

Fixed Foundations (All Circles Cultivate These):

  1. Dwell with Each Other – Cultivate relationships (John 13:34).
  2. Dwell with God – Seek the voice of God together (John 10:27).
  3. Dwell within the Kingdom – Recognize every part has a role (1 Corinthians 12:18).

Flexible Rhythms

  • Each circle develops its own rhythm showing that Christ is the agenda (Colossians 1:16–17).

Observations from Existing Circles

  1. Gather People God Is Highlighting
  • Take time to build love (1 Corinthians 13:3) and trust (Proverbs 3:5).
  1. Discover Your Circle’s Function
  • Unity brings revelation (Matthew 18:19–20).
  1. Receive Spiritual Authority in His Timing
  • Establish air dominance (Matthew 6:33) before acting.
  1. Hear God’s Voice Together for Projects
  • Discover God’s transformative plans (Romans 12:2).
  1. Align With God’s Design and Destiny
  • Build on His foundation for enduring fruit (John 15:5, 1 Corinthians 3:11, 3:14).

Example: Rochester, MN (Fall 2018)

  • A circle formed in love, trust, and unity.
  • God revealed the city’s design and destiny: a place of health and healing.
  • Their first assignment: Health-Driven Agriculture.
  • Wheat needs transformation at three levels: farmer, baker, and consumer.
  • Wheat has been called the “world’s most destructive dietary ingredient” (William Davis, MD).
  • Transformation must occur through the Kingdom of God.
  • Jesus is the Bread of Life.
