Continued from Hello, Condemnation
Reunion
There is a knock at the door.
I walk over and open it.
Outside is a bright, cheerful 15-year old girl leading a young dog.
Beloved: [squealing with joy] Keep… I mean, Friendship!
Friendship: [grinning] I heard you got in over your head and needed my help. As usual.
The dog jumps up and licks my face.
Beloved: Tick! My goodness, how you’ve grown. So good to see you too boy.
F. So, who’s the dissociated part we need to reconcile today?
B. [frowning] I’m not even sure they are a part. They [shuddering] aren’t even human. Maybe [glancing at Tick, the former watchdog of modernity] they are another elemental force or something.
F. [smiling confidently as she scratches Tick] Well, apparently even elemental forces need friends. Shall we?
Encounter
Scales… is not amused.
They hiss at Tick
Who barks back
Though it is hard to tell
If the dog is upset
Or just excited
Unlike Friendship
Who runs up
And gives Scales
A huge hug!
Connection
Scales… is speechless.
Tick barks happily now
Running circles
Around them
I have to laugh
At the expression on Scales face
“You said you wanted Friendship
Well.. there she is!”
I chuckle
But
My mirth is short-lived
When Friendship grabs me
And pulls me…
Into a group hug!
Recognition
I am… touched.
Scales is not a mammal
Yet they
She
(I am now sure she’s female though I don’t know how)
Is a person
She lacks our chemicals
Our fur
Our mammaries
Our memories
Yet
She responds to our warmth
She cherishes the security
She does not attack
Friendship
Broke through
The evolutionary gap
And triggered a brain circuit
That made her recognize us…
As another self!
To be continued
