I am… displaced.

The man and woman are loud
Busy
Intrusive

I just want to eat my hay
And go to sleep

I hear a cry.

Two
Actually

The woman
Laboring heavily

A Child
Screaming for air to breathe

She wraps Him in swaddling clothes
And places Him
In my manger

I am offended.

Where will I eat?
When will I eat?

Does nobody
Care about my needs?
My rights?

But eventually
Curiosity
Overcomes indignation

I look at the Child.

I see Him

His eyes are open
And I realize…

He sees me!
