I am… sneaking out.

Apparently
My beloved’s mother
Is deathly ill

That is probably one reason
Jesus drove us here so fast
And our reception was so guarded

Her father and brother
Seem grateful she is here
Yet resentful she was gone

I fear their drama.

So I take advantage
Of their focus on each other
To slip away

My only thought
Is to escape
Or at least hide out
Until the crisis is resolved

But then
I hear a gentle cough
And I realize…

Jesus is looking for me.

Sheepishly
I turn around
And see Jesus
Again wearing
His surgical mask

But the real shock
Is when He hands me
A razor-sharp scalpel
Saying:

“The deeper reason
I came here so fast.
Is so that you can…”

“Cut out what’s killing her!”
