Angel Approach Memo

Continued from Rushed Upon

I am… brought down.

I watch
With self-loathing
As I allow Angel
To break my Heart
Into pieces

Because I was too weak
To slay him instead

My Brain turns on me…

“Look!”

He shouts

“Do you not know
Have you not heard?
I was the one
That should have died!”

He lowers his voice.

“My death
Would have been
For my own sins
For all the years
I led you astray”

Brain falls to his knees.

“I told myself
I was just doing my job
To keep you safe

“But really
It was because
I was afraid
Of seeing the face of God
And being turned to dust”

I have no words.

Together
We silently watch Angel
Pierce the hearts
Of the lawless mercenaries

They die
And are brought back to life
With pieces of my Heart

They gather around me
To honor my sacrifice
But it still
Feels like a betrayal

Then Angel cries:

“It is finished
Behold!”

I cannot lift my eyes
But Donkey runs over
Grabs my sleeve
And pulls me toward something

I gaze up
Involuntarily…

And cannot believe my eyes!
