Continued from Son Of A

I am… surrounded.

The lawless mercenaries
Form a grim circle around us
Weapons out
But not pointed at us
Yet

Brain starts running around
Like a head with its chicken cut off
And shrieks:

“Ack!
They’re here
I knew this would happen”

Donkey
Looks confused
Rather than scared

I guess he’s already a slave
So he isn’t in any danger
And has nothing to lose

Angel
Looks grim
But say and does nothing
Other than sheathing his sword

Sigh
I guess it’s up to me

I turn to the largest mercenary
And say:

“Look!”

“I’m just a poor wanderer
Who can’t even control his own Brain
All I own is the Donkey”

I turn and look at him
With sadness
As I say:

“I haven’t treated him very well
So if he wants to go with you
I totally understand”

I turn back to them.

“For that matter
I can’t stop you
From doing anything you want
I don’t have the Brain to try

“And anyway
I’m tired of fighting”

The big warrior laughs.

He smiles at his fellows:

“Anything we want?”

He muses
In an Australian accent
As he turns back to me

“Very well
What we want is…”

“For you to lead us!”
