I am… blinded by the light.

The glowing figure of Jesus
Seems to expand
Until it encompasses all of reality

Or maybe I just shrink
Until I lose myself in Him

I look for Jesus.

Instead
I see our family trauma

Every separation
Deception
Heartbreak
Rejection
Misunderstanding
False identity

That led to me
Hiding in a basement

Jesus speaks to me.

He says:

“Look closer
And slower”

Then finally…

I see Jesus.

I see that all of this
Took place inside His heart

I see
That all of those
Who hurt me
Were also held
Are still held
Will always be held
Inside the heart of Jesus

I see
The beating heart of Jesus
Pierced by the spear
Of my unbelief

Blood and water
Rush out
Carrying me with them…

Into the world!
