Spirit Approach Memo

Continued from Before the Onslaught

I am… lifting my eyes.

I am not the hero of this story
But the distraction

My monstrous form
And obvious strength
Draws the attention of the enemy

And makes my meekness
Incomprehensibly confusing

Disordering the enemy
As my father-in-law
Orders the attack

I listen for the Spirit.

He says:

“This
Is what your wife
Has been waiting for:
A true target
For all the anger
Bottled up inside her”

I see.

Everything
That has happened

Every tragedy
Mistake
Misunderstanding
And betrayal

Was to mold us
And circumstances
To setup a victory
More beautiful
Than we would dare imagine

I look to my wife.

I say:

“Please forgive me
I did not know
What God was doing “

I look to the enemy.

I see the darkness
That caused them
To hate us

And us
To despise each other

Her eyes are opened.

She sees the truth
Of why she became
Who she was
Through my mistakes
And yells…

“Flame on!”

To be continued

Reflection

I feel…

  • Humbled
  • Comprehension
  • Forgiveness
  • Understanding
  • Grace
  • Stillness

Scripture

He [Sisera] ran for his life to the tent of Jael wife of Heber the Kenite, for there was friendship between King Jabin of Hazor and the family of Heber the Kenite.
Jael came out of her tent to greet Sisera and said to him, “Come in, my Lord, come in here. You have nothing to fear.
As soon as he entered her tent, she hid him under a blanket. Sisera said to her, “I’m so thirsty. Please let me have some water.” So she opened a skin of milk, gave him some to drink, and covered him again.
He said to her, “Stand at the entrance of your tent. If anybody comes and asks you if there is anybody here, tell them, ‘No.’
Exhausted, he fell fast asleep under the blanket. While he slept, Jael wife of Heber took a tent peg in one hand and a hammer in the other and tiptoed over to where he was lying. And with a crushing blow, she drove the tent peg through his temple until it went down into the ground—he was dead!
Just then, Barak arrived in pursuit of Sisera. Jael went out of her tent to greet him and said, “Come, let me show you the man you’re looking for.” He went inside with her, and there was Sisera lying dead with the tent peg through his temple.
