Wondrous Item, artifact (requires attunement by a creature of Lawful or Neutral alignment)

A1. Lore

Forged in the fire of divine surrender, the Mirror of Seeing is not an ordinary mirror, but a crystalline ruby lens, created from a ring of power sacrificed on a stone altar before a holy flame. It reveals the truest self not as the world sees, but as the divine Creator knows. Those who gaze through it are undone—and remade.

The Mirror has passed through many hands, though none have owned it. It appears only to those ready to relinquish ambition and embrace sacred stewardship. Its last known wielder became one with the One Tree, rooted at the axis of creation.

A2. Abilities

Divine Lens (1/day)

As an action, the attuned creature may look through the Mirror of Seeing at a target within 60 feet. The target must succeed on a DC 20 Wisdom saving throw or be overwhelmed with the truth of their identity, suffering the following effects for 1 minute:

  • They are Stunned for 1 round.
  • They have disadvantage on Deception, Stealth, and Illusion-related effects.
  • If they are a shapechanger or under illusion, their true form is revealed.

Rooted in Creation (passive while attuned)

You are immune to being magically charmed or frightened. You gain tremorsense 30 ft. and are considered proficient in Nature, Insight, and Religion. While standing on natural terrain, you cannot be forcibly moved unless you allow it.

Sacrificial Vision (1/long rest)

As a bonus action, you may sacrifice your next action (as if stunned) to gain a divine vision:

  • Ask one question as if using Commune.
  • Or receive insight into a creature, object, or place as per Legend Lore.

This vision always challenges your sense of agency, pushing you toward sacrificial action or divine obedience.

Guardian of Eden (3 charges/day)

When you witness a desecration of life or nature (DM’s discretion), you may expend a charge to:

  • Cast Wall of Thorns, Holy Aura, or Revivify without components.
  • Alternatively, prevent an area of up to 100 ft. radius from being magically altered or defiled for 24 hours.

Charges regenerate at dawn if the wielder has acted in defense of others and not for personal gain.

A3. Curse – Sight Beyond Self

Upon attunement, the Mirror fuses with the wielder’s soul. You lose the ability to tell lies, use illusions, or disguise your alignment. Furthermore:

  • If you act selfishly or pursue domination, you take 4d10 radiant damage and lose all benefits of the Mirror for 24 hours.
  • If you die in defense of the innocent, your body transforms into a Tree of Light, creating a permanent holy sanctuary.

A4. Sentience

The Mirror is sentient, Lawful Neutral, with:

  • Intelligence 20, Wisdom 24, Charisma 22.
  • It communicates via telepathy and visions.
  • It seeks out those destined to be stewards, not kings.

If the wielder resists its moral path, the Mirror may compel dreams, environmental omens, or even leave them entirely.

A5. Destruction

The Mirror can only be destroyed if a steward willingly blinds themselves and casts the lens into a desacralized inferno—a place of godless power. Even then, the lens may resurrect elsewhere, awaiting another heart pure enough to see.
