Immanuel Approach Memo
Concluding from Among Us
I am…
Seeing Jesus…
With a smile and a sledgehammer.
He is walking up
To all the altars
We had built
Over two thousand years
Some still standing
Others decaying
Many destroyed
Most forgotten
He spits on his palms.
The saliva
Falling through
The holes in His hands
He grabs the hammer
And says:
“It is begun!”
He smashes our altars
Not out of hate
But out of love
Because
Every rock
Of every altar
Held a piece of our soul
That we had hidden from each other
And as He
Pulverizes
What we held most sacred…
We see each other.
In all our beauty
All our pain
All our fear
All our glory
We are set free.
To be our true selves
To connect with each other
To be one with Jesus
As He is with the Father
We see our dust…
Broken altars
And fractured stones
Freed from the need
To preserve our souls
As earthly burdens…
Become a stairway to heaven.
Jesus stands
On the first step
And says:
“You are no longer rebels
But friends
And I cannot wait
To show you the place
I have prepared for you.”
So step by step
Bound together in unity
We follow Jesus…
And climb to the stars!
