I am… not alone.

Though it sure feels like it
As I look out
Over the barren red planet
God invited me to terraform
Into His garden

As a favor to Him
As a friend

To be fair
He has given me
Legions of angels

And has promised
To also make His home here
With me

But still
It is a heavy responsibility
To figure out
What to say
Or even ask

God interrupts:

“Did you not know
Responsibility
Is a pagan word
For internalizing shame
By sacrificing to idols
Under threat of a curse?

“Instead
I invite you
To externalize shame
Onto Me
By being accountable
In duty
To our relationship”

My eyes are opened.

This world is not empty
It is filled
With the glory of God

And once I
The sole inhabitant
Believe that

Then this world
Is filled
With the knowledge
Of the glory
Of God

As the waters cover the sea

Then a miracle occurs.

The angels
Do not wait for my command
But respond
To the joyous cries of my heart

Or maybe
They are part of it
Responding to the same epiphany

They dig deep into the planet
Unlocking the fountains of the deep
Melting the permafrost

Until the mountain
From which I had been surveying
The endless desert…

Becomes an island!
