I am… back in the alley.
Where I first met
The Rottweiler
Where He saved me
From myself
From my enemies
From rotten food
From loneliness
I see Them.
They are still there
Fighting over scraps
Forming packs
To steal from the weak
Then turning on each other
For a moment
I am overcome
With revulsion
For how I once lived
With fear
That I might become that again
That they
Are too strong for me
Then a miracle occurs.
I see myself
In them
I see
That they see
The Rottweiler
In me
My head turns.
The golden collar
The Rottweiler gave me
Shifts my gaze
To the west side
I see a female
A purebred
Living like a mongrel
Eating carrion
I look at her
With compassion
But she snarls at me
With defiance
Too broken
To accept help
Even from one
Who would be her friend
And I suddenly realize
With a shock:
She is my assignment!
To be continued
Reflection
I feel…
- Pity
- Unafraid
- Grief
- Grateful
- Resolute
