Stepping into God’s Flow

Namaan stepping into the Jordan (2 Kings 5) offers a powerful picture of stepping into God’s divine flow. Namaan, a commander of the Syrian army, initially resisted God’s unconventional plan—washing in the Jordan seven times to receive healing. But his obedience activated the flow of God’s supernatural power, releasing healing and wholeness.

Similarly, we are invited to step into the flow of God’s Spirit, where His life-giving power transforms us and those around us. This flow is not born of human striving but is the work of the Holy Spirit in and through us.

John 7:38:

“Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”

When we abide in Jesus and believe His promises, the Spirit’s rivers flow naturally from us. This divine flow quenches our spiritual thirst and creates an overflow that touches everyone in proximity—transforming atmospheres, breaking strongholds, and revealing God’s glory.

Spirit Flow vs. Striving

Like the river of life described in John 7:38, the Spirit brings a supernatural flow that cannot be manufactured by human effort. Striving produces frustration, but flow produces fruitfulness. In worship, creativity, relationships, and ministry, God’s flow carries us beyond our limitations into the miraculous.

Consider the song I’ve Got a River of Life. This isn’t just a joyful melody—it’s a declaration of truth! As God’s Spirit flows in us, it awakens creativity, heals brokenness, and sets captives free. We become conduits of His supernatural life.

The Ripple Effect

This flow is contagious. Like a character in League of Legends who carries an aura benefiting allies, God’s Spirit flowing through us passively impacts those around us. People are drawn to His presence in us without us even realizing it, as His life radiates through our words, actions, and very presence.

This ripple effect is a testimony to God’s power. Just as the Jordan’s waters became the pathway for Israel’s crossing, our lives become conduits for God’s wonders.

Five Facets of God’s Flow

  1. Creativity (Exodus 35:31-35)
God fills us with His Spirit, bestowing creative gifts for His glory. Bezalel and Oholiab received divine craftsmanship to design the tabernacle. In the same way, God’s flow in your creativity leads to works that reveal His beauty and draw others to Him.
  2. Kingdom Strategy (2 Samuel 5)
God’s strategies often defy human logic. David’s conquest of Jerusalem involved an absurd tactic—going through the water shaft! In God’s flow, He provides divine strategies for impossible situations, reminding us that His ways are higher than ours.
  3. Wisdom (Daniel 5:14)
Daniel operated in a wisdom that transcended human understanding, revealing mysteries and interpreting dreams. In God’s flow, we gain divine wisdom to navigate life’s complexities and bring solutions that glorify Him.
  4. Intelligence (1 Corinthians 2:16)
With the mind of Christ, we tap into a divine intelligence. This isn’t just natural IQ but spiritual insight, allowing us to perceive God’s will and understand the deeper truths of His kingdom.
  5. Favor (Psalm 5:12)
God’s flow surrounds us with favor like a shield. This favor opens doors, grants opportunities, and positions us in ways that human effort could never achieve.

Stepping Into the Flow

To appropriate God’s flow, we must:

  1. Believe – Like Namaan, trust God’s unconventional instructions, even when they don’t make sense.
  2. Yield – Stop striving and let the Spirit
