Immanuel Approach Memo

I am… shepherding my thoughts.

It is not easy work
But I’ve learned to enjoy it

I’ve befriended most of the sheep
Though there are still unruly ones
I often need to chase down

Usually
I am too focused on them
To look up at the stars

But not tonight.

Suddenly
I hear a voice
Many voices
A chorus

I fall to my knees
I cover my face in shame

The voice speaks:

Do not fear!

You are worried about many things / But only one thing is needful

He is very near / But you must seek Him out

I lift my eyes
And cry out:

“How can I find Him
How will I recognize Him?”

In answer…

The earth shakes.

Mountains sink down
Valleys fill up
Rocks cry out

They sing:

“Find the place
Where God is most highly exalted
You will recognize it
By the peace He brings”

So
Leaving my sheep…

I go look for Jesus.

• Unresolved

Scripture

For a child has been born—for us! the gift of a son—for us! He’ll take over the running of the world.
His names will be: Amazing Counselor, Strong God, Eternal Father, Prince of Wholeness.
His ruling authority will grow, and there’ll be no limits to the wholeness he brings. He’ll rule from the historic David throne over that promised kingdom.
He’ll put that kingdom on a firm footing and keep it going With fair dealing and right living, beginning now and lasting always. The zeal of God-of-the-Angel-Armies will do all this.‭‭
