I am… shrouded.

I can’t even tell
Whether it is a soft cloak
Or a heavy darkness

I look for Jesus.

I still cannot see anything
But Someone takes my hand
I known it is Him
By the holes in His

He says:

“Mind the step”

I try
To feel forward
By sliding my foo

He laughs.

Saying with an invisible smile:

“You must step up
To find the foothold”

I find my balance.

Standing on one foot
I reach out with the other
But still find nothing

He says:

“Balance is good
Exploring is better
But to rise up
You must press down”

I see, though still blind.

The steps
Do not exist for me
Until I trust they are there

I must be willing
To commit to the next step
Even if I don’t know where or what it is

To lose my balance
After having fought hard to gain it

And fall
Even a little bit
In order to rise

In fact
The greater the risk
And larger the potential fall
The faster I can rise

I lift my leg
As high as I can
Karate-kid style

I imagine
I am creating the next step
Out of sheer force of will
Naked trust
Absolute surrender

I squeeze the hand of Jesus
Trusting He will catch me
If I do this wrong

And hop up in the dark!
