I am… feeding.

Gently
Slowly
With the new mouth
On my faceless face

It is wonderful
Except
I’m not sure what it is
I am eating
Because I still lack
Eyes to see with
Nose to smell with

It is small rectangles
Crunchy but yielding
Apple?
Potato?
Gelatin?

What is it?

I listen for the Spirit.

He says:

“Yes!”

I say:

“What?”

He says:

“Exactly:

‘What is it‘
Manna”

It runs out.

I grope around
In the waste and mud
Looking for more

The Spirit asks:

“Why did you not ask?
There is always more
But I will only give you
A little at a time
So you can digest it
And not drop it”

I cry out.

“Give me this manna
That never runs out”

The Spirit says:

“You have unclean hands
Because you tried
To find your own food”

He takes
My filthy hands
In His
And says:

“Only those
Whose hands and feet are clean
May eat at My table”

He turns me around.

And says:

“Now we must go
To be cleansed
At the Sea of Anger”
