An infant
Emerging
From his mother’s womb

From a place
Of endless bliss
And innocence

Into a world
Of pain
Blood
Need

I gasp for air

I look to My Father.

He says:

“Breathe!”

I cry out.

As I empty my lungs
Air rushes in
To fill the vacuum
Inside of me

Next
My Father
Pulls out a knife
Sharp
Beautiful
Deadly

He cuts the cord.

Everything
That bound me to my mother
My past
My security
My identify

Is removed from me
Detached
Dissolved
Divorced

Dead

My Father reaches out

He takes my hand.

He says:

“It is time to live!”

And so…

I do!
