God, I must confess that I’ve had a judging attitude towards President Trump. That I’ve judged him based on his sins, which are many — but so are mine. And I like to think that his sins are worse than mine; and that is perhaps the worst sin of them all.
“I like to think that his sins are worse than mine; and that is perhaps the worst sin of them all.”
Lord, You told us to pray for our leaders and those in authority. To believe that You are raising up — as most of us prayed during this election — for You to choose someone who would accomplish Your purposes for this nation. And so I have to believe that You’re doing that. And in the vision that was shared — where Trump grasps the new thing that You’re doing; and with the eyes of the church and the world upon him, speaks life and love and reconciliation.
And dear God, You know we need that. Lord, it’s beyond the bounds of my faith, but it’s far from beyond the bounds of Yours.
To use for Your glory, a situation that many people in marginalized communities see as a horrific tragedy — and people like me see with contempt — and others see perhaps as secular salvation.
You’re a God who loves the sinner. You love Donald Trump and You do cherish him. And all of my friends whom I fear idolize him; maybe they love him better than I do. And that’s sad — for me.
And so, Lord, I cry out that You would fill my heart with love for President Trump. And, Lord, the vision we have — of a nation, a world built on reconciliation and loving our enemies — that it would start with me.
“The vision we have — of a nation, a world built on reconciliation and loving our enemies — that it would start with me.”
Lord, grant that those of us who do believe that love conquers all, to pray with authority for President Trump. That he would fulfill the dreams and prayers that people have prayed for him, in a way that brings glory to You.
I ask this in Jesus name, Amen.
