Continued from Far Terror

I am… thumbless.

I need to warn my lord
Of the approaching enemy

Yet somehow I have been cursed
With a slow, soft turtle-voice
Clumsy turtle-hands
Awkward turtle-feet
And a heavy turtle-back

I can barely fit through doors
Or pull them open
Much less use doorknobs

And who would take the time
To listen to me
If I found them?

I listen for the Spirit.

He says:

“This is not a curse
But a gift”

He whispers:

“Do not fear
The enemy without”

He promises:

“You do not need strength
To defeat
The enemy without
But weakness
To defeat
The enemy within”

I look in the mirror.

I realize
I now see myself
As others saw me

I thought
I was slim, swift, and deft
But they experienced me
As burdened, brash, and forced

And I suddenly realize…

There is only one hope!
