I am… stopped.

My newly-forged family
Spirit-filled and led
Dances to the gates
Of the city I fled
And halts

The ecstasy ceases
But we still understand one another

They cry out
Begging me not to enter

They confess
They brutally killed
Emissaries from the city
Even peaceful ones
Due to well-justified fears
Of being assimilated
And forgetting Jesus

They warn me
Of the fate
That awaits
Past the gate

I hear them
I believe them

I look for Jesus.

I see Him
On the other side of the gate
Standing at the right hand
Of God

I hear Him
Say:

“Come to me
All you who are weary
Of the wars of this world
And I will give you rest”

I believe Him
So I turn myself
Over…

To my enemies.
