Immanuel Approach Memo

Continued from With

I am… attacked.

I woke
Put on a clean robe
Read my tattoos
And went to look for food

I found the carcass of a lion
Where bees had built a hive

They stung me
When I stole their honey

My face swelled up
Monstrously
From an allergic reaction

I look for Jesus.

I do not see Him
But instead
Am discovered
By an indigenous tribe

They fear the city
Marvel at my white robe
And consider me
An inhuman messenger from above
Because of my disfigurement

They bring me to their village
Feast me
Celebrate me
Give me gifts

I am speechless.

Literally
I cannot open my mouth
Due to the swelling

Plus
I do not speak
Any language
They can understand

I read my scroll.

In fresh ink
Below a faded verse
It says:

No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

Am I here
Merely to be fed
Or to serve God?

And if so…
How?

To be continued

Reflection

I feel…

  • Pain
  • Welcome
  • Isolation
  • Contradiction

Scripture

“The Lord says: My servant will succeed! He will be given great praise and the highest honors. Many were horrified at what happened to him. But everyone who saw him was even more horrified because he suffered until he no longer looked human.”‭‭

Isaiah‬ ‭52‬:‭13‬-‭14‬ ‭CEV‬‬

My Tattoos

Tell them He lives
Follow your heart

Left Back

Set sail from an isle
Was carried to shore
Escaped a city
