I am… woke.

I thought I would die
Delivering the scarecrow-head of Jesus
To my mama-bear wife
Besieged by safety wolves
Watched by the child/lion/bird
Of my selves and friends

Instead
My headfirst hawk-dive
Knocked me out
And knocked off my glasses

I look for Jesus.

He is talking to my wife
She is cradling His head
In her arms

Her cubs
That she was protecting
Listen intently

She licks Him
With her great bear-tongue
Knocking off His hat

Affection
Not tasting
Though perhaps
They are not that different

She seems ready
To put down the shotgun
She was using to defend herself
(And her cubs)

When suddenly…

She sees me!
