Immanuel Approach Memo

Continued from Rescued

I am… overwhelmed.

There are no adults left
Of me
Just children and birds

Everyone else is a sheep
Kind-hearted
But clueless

I was the youngest
Who somehow became the oldest
Though I’m barely old enough to shave

How can I protect them from
Much less overcome
The unseen enemy
Who shot Jesus
Thinking He was us

I look for Jesus.

His whale-body
Is gone

We consumed His flesh
Drunk His blood
And watched His bones turn to dust
Which even now blows away on the wind

Who will lead us?
Who will save us?

I feel
The awful weight
Of responsibility

The birds
Are wise
But speechless

The sheep
Are loving
But scared

The children
Are happy
But unaware

I see
Our dilemma
I remember

All that happened
To every part of me
All that God has done
For me
To me
Through me

But I have no idea
What happens next
Or the role I should play

I close my eyes

I cry out to My Father.

When I open them
I see the scarecrow
Walking around

Feeding himself
To everyone

The birds
Begin to speak
With human tongues

The sheep
Become lions

The children
Remain childlike
And joyful

But
As the scarecrow
Begins to shrink
From giving himself away

The children
Become thoughtful
And remember
As I do
The price that was paid
For our redemption

Finally
All that is left
Of the scarecrow
Is his empty head

It rolls to me
Looks me in the eye
And says:

“You know what you must do.”

And suddenly…

I do!

To be continued

Reflection

I feel…

  • Fragmented
  • Alone
  • Heard
  • Fed
  • Saved

Scripture

“I will make your oppressors eat their own flesh; they will be drunk on their own blood, as with wine. Then all mankind will know that I, the Lord, am your Savior, your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.”‭‭

Isaiah‬ ‭49‬:‭26‬ ‭NIV‬‬
