Continued from Alight

I am… despicable.

Once
A mindless hunter
Obsessed over my own safety

Hope
Only made me desperate
I ran away from Jesus
Stranded myself on a desert island
Slew Him and my higher self
Feasting on their blood and flesh
Which now burns within me

I collapse on the sand
Writhing in agony
As the viscera of Jesus
Activated by my spilt blood
Makes war on my flesh

I cry out to My Father.

“Father, forgive me
I don’t know what I am doing.”

He answers:

“I know”

He whispers
And a rain begins to fall
Quenching the agony in my gut

It feels
As if heaven itself
Is crying the tears
I am too weak to shed

My Father sings.

A lullaby
I cannot make out the words
But He sings healing to my soul
Despite
Or perhaps because of
My ruined flesh

He sings dreams of the future
Wars and kingdoms
Lands and families

But simply
Softly
Reassuringly

Until at last
I fall asleep
