Immanuel Approach Memo
Continued from Useless
I am… odious.
I stare at the remorseful hunter
That fragment of myself
Who shot me and dolphin-Jesus
With connected arrows
I loath what I must do
But am running out of
Time
Energy
Self
I look to My Father.
I feel peace descending on me
Like a dove
With my last strength
I pull the thread
To yank the arrow
With the eye and brain of Jesus
Dip it in the blood
Pouring from my side
Limp over to the hunter
And say
With my last breath:
“The only way
Any of us can be saved
Is if you take and eat”
Then I die
The hunter looks to me.
At my outstretched arm
Holding the bloody viscera
His gorge rises within him
It is too much
He turns and vomits
Over the beach soaked with his tears
He lifts his eyes
To the Jesus he slew
Cries out
Beats his breast
“Is there no hope
For one as wretched as I?”
The Father answers:
“Only one!”
A beam of light
Falls from heaven
On the gruesome arrow
With a cry
More of despair than hope
The hunter grabs the arrow
Jabs it viciously into his mouth
But instead
Of him consuming it…
It consumes him!
To be continued
Reflection
I feel…
- Wretched
- Self-Loathing
- Despair
- The agony of hope
- Desperate hunger
- Seen
- Watched over
- Fathered
- Gone
Scripture
And now the Lord says— he who formed me in the womb to be his servant to bring Jacob back to him and gather Israel to himself, for I am honored in the eyes of the Lord and my God has been my strength— he says:
Isaiah 49:5-6 NIV
“It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.”
