Immanuel Approach Memo
Continued from Directed
I am… swimming.
The forest
Has given way to a delta
A river
I never noticed
Is emptying into the sea
The hunter-self of mine
To whom I gave Hope
Has shed his orange jumpsuit
And human form
To become a barracuda
The scarecrow
Has tossed me in after him
I look for Jesus.
He has become a dolphin
He is leading me out to sea
Away from the forest
Away from our quarry/adversary
My human body
And hawk head
Are not equipped for this
I flounder
I cry out for Jesus.
He hears me
He draws near
He speaks
Somehow
I understand
His clicks and whistles
He says:
“I called you out
Into deep waters
So you had no choice
But to trust me”
I cling to Jesus.
We chase the barracuda
I ask:
“Why
Is he running away
From everything we’ve been hunting?”
Jesus
Grins a dolphin grin
And replies:
“Each piece of you
Was designed for a unique purpose
They become toxic
When forced
To confirm to one goal”
He gives a shout of glee:
“This hunter
In receiving Hope
Has gained
True form
True purpose
And will not be denied”
I am hurt
Scared
Confused
Triggered
I lash out at Jesus.
“How could you do this to me?
How can I abandon
My other selves
To face their adversary alone?
Won’t this just increase
The fragmentation you hate
And destroy us?”
In response
Jesus just speeds up
So I have to hold on tighter
He begins to sing
A high-pitched song
At the edge of my perception
I have to listen
Closely
Deeply
For a long time
Before I realize
He is just repeating
Over and over:
“Come and see!”
To be continued
Reflection
I feel…
- At sea
- Wild
- Out of my depth
- Carried away
- Desperate for Jesus
- Dependent
- Accelerating
Scripture
“How I wish that you had obeyed my commands! Your success and good fortune would then have overflowed like a flooding river. Your nation would be blessed with more people than there are grains of sand along the seashore. And I would never have let your country be destroyed.”
Isaiah 48:18-19 CEV
