I am… searching.

Empowered by Hope
My redeemed hawk-selves
Have shed their safety vests
To chase and rescue
My rabid human-selves

I have traded my heavy human skull
For an agile bird-brain
Able to bear the sight of Hope

I cannot remember much
I cannot plan too far ahead
But I can see forever
And focus
With uncanny precision
On what is in front of me

I look for Jesus.

He comes
In human form
Like a son of man
Riding on the clouds

Actually
In the clouds
Where I cannot see Him

Where those we hunt
Cannot see Him
Lest they flee in terror

Yet I know He is there
Because Hope rides with Him
And she makes the darkest clouds
Glow like silver

I look for my target.

I do not know who
Or even how I know

All I know
Is there is a pattern in my brain
That is restlessly searching
For a match

When I find it
Far below
A tall figure
Clad all in orange
My beak looses a cry of triumph

I want to swoop down
But my human body
Held aloft by Hope
Is not capable of such feats

So instead
Without thinking

I release Hope.

She shoots down
Toward my target

While I
Head first
Plummet to earth…
