I am… recruiting.

I offer Hope
The miraculous energy being
Given to me by Jesus
To my hidden hawk-selves

One by one
Starting with a ten-year-old Decade
They come forward
To shed their orange safety vests

When they are ready
Naked and vulnerable
Hope spreads

She dances from hawk to hawk
Landing on their eyes

To their credit
They do not blink
Lest they miss the blessing

I see Hope in their eyes

As if she left a little piece of her behind
Not identical
But closely related

Yet she is not diminished
Quite the opposite
Because Hope when shared
Grows

Because Hope when shared
Grows

I look for Jesus.

Hope now stands beside Him
Full grown, shining like a sun

I cannot bear it
My human eyes
Were not meant for such glory

My human eyes
Were not meant for such glory

Jesus steps forward
Spits on His hands
And covers my eyes

Instantly
My eyes
Brain
Head

Become that of a hawk

Still on my human body
Like some Egyptian god

I open my mouth to speak
But all that comes out
Is a fierce hunting cry

At once all the hawks
Take to the skies

I yearn to join them
But my human legs cannot jump that high
My human arms cannot generate such lift

So instead…

Hope lifts me up

And I soar with the raptors

As we head to the east
Towards the rising sun
I hear the voice of Jesus
Whispering in my ear:

“You will not see Me
For they must not see Me
Until all has been completed
But do not be afraid
For you will have Hope
And wherever Hope rises
I AM!”
